Injury data in recent years show consistent seasonal trends. It is clear that in the construction industry, injuries rise at the end of summer, going into fall. Our research shows that injuries in the heavy construction peak in the last weeks of October.
We at WORKSAFELY™ would like to remind our industry to be diligent during this busy end-of-season and take the time to review and implement safe-work practices to prevent injuries.
At this time, sprains, strains and tears are the most common injuries. Fall brings more precipitation, raising the likelihood of slips, trips and falls. The areas of the body most likely to be injured are the back and spine, likely from slips and trips or stress from lifting, pushing or pulling.
Take the time to review safe-work practices and procedures to reduce the number of time-loss injuries that can last beyond the construction season. Practices, procedures and Safety Talks can be found on our website or by asking your regional advisor.
