This presentation will give an overview how Musculoskeletal Injuries can develop and how to prevent them. Since back injuries are common across the heavy construction sector, particular attention will be spent on gaining a better understanding of the back. Roles and responsibilities for injury prevention will be discussed as well as exercises and their rationale for reducing injury risks.

This course is designed to provide participants with a better understanding of the destructive and negative consequences of “Workplace Harassment”. The course will define and discuss the most common forms of harassment, and will suggest methods and actions that can be taken to eliminate occurrences.

This course will cover emergency preparedness for heavy construction sites.  We will review emergencies such as excavation cave-ins, various injuries at worksites, fires/explosions, fuel and oil spills, and outdoor extremes such as lighting and tornadoes.

Participants will be able to explain why environmental practices make good business sense and how the supervisor can influence/change workplace practices. They will identify environmental acts and regulations relevant to supervisors, evaluate environmental issues on a site and recommend possible courses of action to resolve. They will explain the green building system process, why they are applied to projects and the role of the supervisor in the implementation.

In the heavy construction industry human fatigue is recognized as being one of the main causes of accidents.  

Employers must ensure that everyone in their workplace is aware of potential workplace hazards (such as fatigue) and take steps to prevent workplace accidents, injuries and illness that may be a result of fatigue.

Participants will be able to define and recognize the symptoms of fatigue, develop a fatigue risk management strategy and develop skills to assist and reduce the impact of the contributing factors to fatigue.

This program instructs new workers in the compliance of the Workplace Safety and Health Regulations. Participants will receive information on how to implement practical procedures to control traffic, including the required personal protective equipment needed, incident management, and protection of worker, co-workers and the general public.

Understanding the hazards while working around hydraulic systems is becoming ever more important, as hydraulic systems are advancing at a fast pace. The safety aspects of exposure to these systems are unknown to many people, which puts employees in harm’s way without them realizing it.

This course brings about the awareness required to prevent injury and fatalities. Safety training in this area is on the increase and it is important for operators, maintenance personnel and managers to obtain the proper training to keep employees, the public and the environment safe from harm.

An incident investigation system is one of the primary tools for
identifying preventative solutions after an incident has occurred.
The results of incident investigations can provide a basis for
determining the likelihood of recurrence and for assessing
potential severity. Such investigations also provide valuable
information to assist in the development of effective controls to
prevent future incidents. 

Participants will learn how to conduct an incident investigation, understand the immediate and root causes of incidents, as well as how to complete incident reports.

This course focuses on the investigation process, and how the
collected information may be used to explain what happened.

When workers are impaired on the job, whether by fatigue, use of drugs, or consumption of alcohol, it can have serious consequences. 

This course will provide managers and supervisors with an understanding of what impairment is, as well as its impact and causes, and the importance of having a workplace policy and corresponding procedures about impairment.

This course provides a new workers a practical introduction to the most common types of personal protective equipment (PPE) used to protect against common workplace hazards, such as chemicals, noise and mechanical injury. The basics of PPE are covered, including practical tips for safe use, PPE programs, limitations and legal responsibilities.

The Prime Contractor course educates students on the legal responsibilities when a person is designated as a “prime contractor”, understand how the contract bid process works and the importance of having a systematic approach for contract management, identify trends, and have a framework in place to diligently manage a work site when designated the “prime contractor”.

This is course is an excellent introduction for the new workers to the heavy construction workforce or a dynamic refresher for the more seasoned worker.

RSTS is a training course related to developing a solid understanding of different topics that all relate to Heavy Equipment Construction. Upon successful completion of this program, participants will receive a certificate which will be registered with the Manitoba Heavy Construction Association.

The intent of this course is to ensure that employers, supervisors, workers, and members of the safety and health committee are aware of their responsibilities in identifying and controlling hazards in the workplace, and have the tools to develop safe work procedures. This course is designed for Safety Committee/Representative participants to help ensure they realize the important scope of their safety and health role, and the imperatives of supporting partnership in the workplace.

The program will define the role of the committee, employer, and workers. Participants will learn how to handle safety and health concerns brought to the committee, also how to find the information needed from the Workplace Safety and Health Act, Workplace Safety and Health Regulation MR217/2006.

This course is designed for employees responsible for shipping, receiving, and transporting dangerous goods. This course will include the review of the classification of controlled substances, applicable safety marking, required documentation, dangerous occurrence reporting, labels and placards, and the review of the applicable legislation elements and requirements.

Content includes the nine classifications of dangerous goods, documentation requirements, safety marks – labels/placards, safety requirements for TDG, and training requirements.

Participants will be educated in the legal, safety, and functional requirements of setting up and coordinating traffic control measures. Both practical and theoretical methods will be utilized by the students in an attempt to standardize practices across Manitoba.
