May 3 to 9 is Mental Health Week, a mental health awareness campaign sponsored by the Canadian Mental Health Association. Mental Health Week is a Canadian tradition, with communities, schools and workplaces rallying to celebrate, protect and promote mental health. The core objective of Mental Health Week is to promote mental health because mental health is something we can promote and protect, not just something we can lose.
You can support your employees by:
- Starting a conversation about mental health. For example, talk about stress, and how to manage it in your safety talks
- Being aware of behavioural changes in your coworkers and encouraging them to talk
- Assisting workers in detecting mental health issues early. Encourage employees to access free online screening tools and resources
- Supporting your employee’s efforts to get help. Allow an employee flexible hours to go to therapy.
