Hand Safety

BACK TO YOU: DON HURST

Hand injuries are common in the heavy construction industry which is why practicing hand safety is so important. Prevention can greatly reduce these injuries.

Hand injuries can occur from pinch points, sharp objects, slips and trips, repetitive strain injuries, rotating or moving equipment and much more.

Ways to protect yourself and your workers include:

  • Reviewing PPE guidelines to see when hand PPE is required and train workers on practices and procedures
  • Use appropriate gloves or PPE to protect yourself
  • Have first aid kits stocked and ready for first aiders should an injury occur
  • Remove rings and jewelry before beginning the workday

If you have any questions or concerns regarding hand safety and appropriate PPE, please contact your regional advisor.
