Women are looking for jobs in heavy construction

This year MHCA teamed up with River East Transcona School Division (RETSD) to deliver an Introduction to Heavy Construction for Women in our industry.  Historically, women make up a small fraction of the overall workforce in our industry and WORKSAFELY™ is trying to change that.

Twelve young women (grades 11, 12, and adult education) recently graduated from MHCA’s Introduction to Heavy Construction course in RETSD. Now they are looking for work. We invite our companies to contact Jackie Jones (Jackie@mhca.mb.ca or 204-509-0384). If you would like to meet the candidates, and consider them for employment.

Many have come from vocational programs such as metal fabrication, mechanics, etc. All the graduates have completed WORKSAFELY™ training. Those courses included worker orientation, confined-space awareness, excavation/trenching, flagperson, and more.

The Heavy Construction for Women program, a partnership that included the MCHA, Manitoba Construction Sector Council, Office to Advance Women Apprentices and RETSD, with funding from the Manitoba Status of Women, is just one way MHCA is reaching into diverse communities, to attract under-represented groups to careers in our industry.

We invite individuals to post their resumes, and companies to post job openings, on the WORKSAFELY™ website here . Check it out!
