Injuries rise at this time of the year

BACK TO YOU: DON HURST

October is ‘Ergonomics Month’, a good time to remind our industry that injury data in recent years show consistent seasonal trends: Injuries rise and peak in the heavy construction industry at the end of summer and into the fall months, as the construction season comes to a close. As well, our research shows that injuries peak in the last weeks of October.

We at WORKSAFELY® would like to remind our industry to be diligent this month and take time to review and implement safe-work practices.

In fall, musculoskeletal injuries such as sprains, strains and tears are the most common injuries. Fall brings more precipitation, raising the likelihood of slips, trips and falls. The back and spine most commonly see injuries, likely from slips and trips, or stress from lifting, pushing or pulling.

Review safe-work practices and procedures to reduce the number of time-loss injuries that may last beyond the construction season. Practices, procedures and Safety Talks can be found on our website or by asking your regional advisor.
