Get ready for construction season – and review your “working while impaired” policies

Spring is here and preparations for the construction season are in full swing. This year, those preparations should include hazards that can flow from the legalization of marijuana. It’s time to review policies and training materials related to impairment in the workplace – which include a variety of substance-use issues and the risks that impairment presents on the worksite.

Heavy construction work has inherent hazards and they are exacerbated when workers may be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Responding to the concerns we’ve heard from our industry, we at MHCA have developed a drug and alcohol policy and classroom course to help you navigate issues concerning drugs and alcohol. The policy and training address topics such as roles and responsibilities, fitness for work, and much more. If your company has any questions or concerns, contact your regional advisor. Or, if you would like to book training you can email kristen@mhca.mb.ca.
