Changes to hearing conservation regulations

Manitoba Workplace Safety & Health has been notifying all employers of changes to the WSH regulations regarding hearing conservation. These changes were adopted in November 2018 and take full effect in November 2019.

Previously, employers were required to provide their workers with an initial baseline hearing test no later than 70 days after commencement of employment (and capping exposure to more than 85 dBA Lex). The regulatory changes mean employers will have 6 months to do this initial baseline test.

Additionally, employers are now required to conduct hearing tests on workers and report them to Workplace Safety & Health only every two years, versus annually in the previous regulation.
