WORKSAFELY Response to COVID 19

The health and safety of our clients, staff and our community at large is a top priority for the MHCA and its WORKSAFELY Program. In order to contain the risks associated with COVID-19, and based on advice from governments and their public health agencies, the MHCA is cancelling all of its courses and closing its office effective March 16 until further notice. This also includes all events, meetings, training sessions and in-person client visits and consulting activities.

During this temporary closure of our office, our WORKSAFELY advisors are working remotely and are available to respond to COR program and other regular safety and health enquiries by phone or email.  Click here for the contact information for your WORKSAFELY advisor.

MHCA WORKSAFELY will also work with clients to reschedule training sessions as early as possible and at no additional cost. For COR companies, our staff will not be conducting audits during this period and those with audits due will be granted appropriate extensions. For individuals, those requiring training/renewals will similarly be granted extensions.

We are closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and will continue following recommendations from governments and public health officials as we move forward.

Consistent with advice from public health officials, we encourage all individuals and employers to continue taking the following precautions to keep themselves healthy and safe and to help prevent community transmission of COVID-19:

  • Wash your hands with soap and warm water thoroughly (2 minutes) and often
  • Practice social distancing.  Minimize prolonged close contact (less than two meters/ six feet) between other individuals in public
  • Avoid greetings that involve touching such as handshakes
  • Cough and sneeze into a tissue or your sleeve. Dispose of the tissue immediately and wash your hands or use an alcohol-based hand scrub
  • Keep surfaces clean and disinfected
  • Stay home if you are feeling ill and follow public health advice related to self-monitoring and self-isolation if you have travelled or have been exposed to someone ill with the virus
  • Consider relaxing sick leave policies, such as the requirement for sick notes, to encourage those who are ill to say home and prevent the spread of illness to coworkers or customers
  • Consider allowing employees to work from home if possible
  • Discontinue non-essential work-related travel outside of Manitoba

We appreciate your support and understanding in helping us control the spread of infection to ensure we all remain healthy and safe.
