Injuries rise at this time of the year

October is ‘Ergonomics Month’, a good time to remind our industry that injury data in recent years show consistent seasonal trends. In the construction industry, injuries rise and peak at the end of summer and into the fall months, as the construction season comes to a close. Our research shows that injuries in heavy construction peak in the last weeks of October.

We at WORKSAFELY™ would like to remind our industry to be diligent during this busy season, and take the time to review and implement safe-work practices.
In fall, musculoskeletal injuries such as sprains, strains and tears are the most common injuries. Fall brings more precipitation, raising the likelihood of slips, trips and falls. The back and spine most commonly see injuries, likely from slips and trips or stress from lifting, pushing or pulling.

Review safe-work practices and procedures to reduce the number of time-loss injuries that may last beyond the construction season. Practices, procedures and Safety Talks can be found on our website or by asking your regional advisor.
