Free Chemical Monitoring Service Opportunity for 2020
Exposure to diesel-engine exhaust has been linked to lung cancer. It’s estimated approximately 897,000 Canadians are exposed to diesel exhaust at their workplace yearly (source: CAREX Canada).
To help prevent or reduce the number of illnesses related to chemical exposures due to vehicle exhaust in your workplace, SAFE Work Manitoba’s chemical monitoring service will conduct monitoring for companies to generate data they can use to make better decisions toward reducing workplace exposure.
The chemicals that will be monitored, which can be components of diesel and gas-engine exhaust, are carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), nitric oxide (NO), and nitrogen dioxide (NO2).
The prevention consultant will collect chemical exposure data including static and dynamic workplace and/or worker exposures. The service will come at no cost to the company.
The free service includes the following features:
- bi-weekly monitoring workers/workplace over the bulk of a shift, for up to one year
- quarterly reports to employer, summarizing findings
- timely notification to employer if test results are over the Threshold Limit Values (TLVs)*
- a final report of findings and recommendations
*Please note: if monitoring results are consistently over the TLVs, SAFE Work Manitoba may cease monitoring and recommend the employer take action before resuming monitoring
